This week our Irish Whiskey News features articles Pernod Ricard moving into the US with their Method and Madness range and Alltech Craft Brews Fair is back for 2019.
So let’s see what’s been happening this week in our Irish whiskey news.
Pernod Ricard is to launch its Method and Madness Irish whiskey range in the US next year amid an increased focus on craft spirits. Method and Madness Irish whiskey was launched in 2017 from Irish Distillers’ Midleton distillery
Speaking to just-drinks yesterday, strategy, insights and innovation director at Pernod’s Irish Distillers unit, Brendan Buckley, said a US launch for Method and Madness Irish whiskey should happen in 2020. He said discussions with Pernod’s US unit were still at an early stage and it was not yet clear which states the range will launch in first. “Method and Madness is a very different proposition to other Irish Distillers whiskies, and the US market is fragmenting so if you want to keep share in a fragmenting market you need more propositions,” Buckley said.
The Alltech Craft Brews and Food Fair, Ireland’s largest craft drinks event, has been announced as part of the St. Patrick’s Festival for 2019. Returning to the Convention Centre Dublin from 14th-16th March, Alltech Brews will showcase more than 300 beers, ciders and spirits from Ireland’s leading craft drinks producers who are at the heart of a vibrant and innovative industry.
Exhibitors at this year’s event acknowledge that issues such as market saturation, the Government’s Public Health Alcohol Bill and the introduction of so-called ‘craft’ brands by large multinationals are putting pressure on the industry. In addition over 50% of exhibitors have developed or are in the process of developing tourist attractions connected to their brewery or distillery.
