Tourism Ireland Organising Whiskey Tasting Events in North America

Tourism Ireland, in collaboration with IrishWhiskey360°, is hosting a number of Irish whiskey media tasting events in North America in advance of St. Patrick’s Day. IrishWhiskey360° is Drinks Ireland|Irish Whiskey’s tourism-focused campaign to raise international awareness of the depth and diversity of Irish whiskey’s tourism offering.

Two North American events have been planned:

  • A lunch, briefing and Irish whiskey tasting with visiting Irish whiskey brand ambassadors in Toronto, Thursday, 5th March
  • A briefing and Irish whiskey tasting event with 17 Irish whiskey companies, in conjunction with the Irish American Business Chamber in Philadelphia, Wednesday, 11th March

These events form part of a series of Irish events taking place across North America in the run-up to St. Patrick’s Day which will be attended by a number of Irish whiskey brand ambassadors and industry leaders from Ireland, including the Chairman of Drinks Ireland|Irish Whiskey David Stapleton; and the Head of Drinks Ireland|Irish Whiskey, William Lavelle. William Lavelle said: “Over one third of all visitors to Irish whiskey distilleries last year came from the US or Canada. But surprisingly, the number of visitors from North America is falling. We aim to stop and reverse that decline. We are very grateful to Tourism Ireland for partnering with IrishWhiskey360° to raise awareness of Irish whiskey among key US and Canadian media and stakeholders.”

Jameson launches one and a half million digitally connected bottles

The new immersive digital platform was launched by the Irish whiskey brand to allow customers to get more from their bottle and get closer to the brand. It’s the first of it’s kind in the Irish market, giving access to unique events, incredible experiences, exclusive content and more. There are thousands of Jameson Connect bottles already on shelves in Irish supermarkets.

The new platform uses new ‘Near Field Communication’ (NFC) technology in the bottle cap, which is a short-range wireless connectivity standard that uses a magnetic field to enable communication between devices when they’re touched together. By tapping the cap with their NFC-enabled smartphone, Jameson customers will be able to digitally connect and register for unique experiences, incredible events and exclusive content, getting more from their bottle.

Throughout the launch phase, customers will also be invited to join the community via social media and can register online without tapping the cap. By registering, customers will get two free tickets to the Bow Street distillery as part of the exciting launch. We want to bring Jameson drinkers together while supporting some of the phenomenal talents and creatives emerging in Ireland today and we believe this is the perfect platform to do this.
